Law Personal Statement

Why Law?

The first question when embarking on a Law career is to ask yourself the question: why have you chosen to study Law? The Admissions Officer will expect this answer to be clearly stated in your personal statement.

Gained Experience

It is beneficial to reveal an exceptional commitment that backs up your key reasons for studying Law. For example you may have worked in a Law firm and through your experiences decided that you need to expand your knowledge. Alternatively, you may have experienced real life injustices that you would like to put right.

Not sure about which area of Law?

To discuss in general the legal system is a sure way to show a commitment to studying law. Generally, the first academic year of a law degree will focus on building basic understanding of the legal system. However, if you are applying for a more specialist legal course, Admission Officers will be looking for more concentrated goals and aims.

It is important to remember that Admission Committees are looking for factual information and are more interested in your personal qualities and skills that make you an excellent student, rather than what you are planning to do once the course is over.

Next: Learn what admissions officers are really looking for.

Note: This guide is not intended to replace the advice of tutors, admissions officers, or teachers; Get Into Uni simply provides advice and exercises to help you write a compelling personal statement.
