Applying

Each University will set guidelines on admissions and consider your application on a number of merits.

Each department may set their own standards.

When you apply for University you may find that different schools operate in different ways. The models of admission vary considerably. Some schools are harder to get into than others.

We have outlined some hypothetical examples of how admissions offices work:

Weaker schools
The weaker schools operate the admissions process as an administrative task to make sure everything is in order and the application is forwarded to the faculty to make a decision.

Harder schools
In schools that are quite hard to get admission, such as Harvard, the admissions centre hold the decision. In schools that offer professional courses such as Law the admissions decision is held with the faculty.

Before launching into your statement of purpose consider reading our application guide which provides application tips to get into university.

Going to university is a big investment in your time, your money and future. It is hard to get a professional position without a degree so make sure you read our application guide to get real advice on developing your personal statement.
